Sven B. Schreiber Oh yeah, great - it's always a lucky day when an old collector's item is reissued! This short-lived project of Hector Zazou (Z) and (N) Joseph Racaille (R) in the late 70's yielded two exciting albums that can be counted to the RIO movement emerging in France and Belgium then. However, contrary to several other RIO bands of that era, which created more epic works, ZNR was specialized on "musical miniatures" of typically just around one or two minutes. Hopefully, the debut album "Barricade 3" will resurface some day, too! Favorite track: Trou de Blé.

about

A Marseille based left-field experimental group formed in the mid 1970's. ZNR stood for Zazou 'n' Racaille, two key members of the pioneering underground band Barricade (5) augmented by a floating roster of other talent of the left-field, folk and jazz scenes.

ZNR made two very different albums during their history "Barricade 3" widely regarded as a landmark and seminal album, and "Traité De Mécanique Populaire" a more reflective mixture of avant-classical and "café music".

After the band split, both Zazou and Racaille went on to solo and other projects.
